Still Kicking

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

It’s been a long time since my last post. I’m not sure why I needed the blogging vacation, but I guess I did, because it just happened naturally.

And just as naturally, it seems to have gone and I find myself thinking about posting again, and wanting to catch-up with all of you.

Here are some random/chain of consciousness items.

Life has been busy. Thing2 and I try to get out at least once during each weekend, and we’ve got a lot of things taken care of, with yet more waiting to be handled.

Thing2’s health continues to be a challenge. Right now her back is making it very difficult to sit or stand for any length of time.

We continue to work to get our relationship back in balance after so many years of her being in a fog.

Some serious illness among friends and family help to keep things in perspective (as if we needed that help with everything we’ve been through in the last few years).

Girl kitty has continued to adjust to life without Boy kitty. We’ve encouraged a friendship with a handsome tabby boy who looks fairly young and is new to the neighborhood, but she is very cautious.

Thing2 hired a gardener who comes once a week, and after just 4-weeks, our yard looks better than it has in years.

We continue to enjoy outings to the coast. On a recent one, they were having a ocean kayak surfing contest. I believe I got some decent shots, which I will upload soon. They made it look easy — I was ready to jump in and give it a go right then.

That’s all for now, I’ll try to stop by and visit your blogs in the next few days.

Surfers at Sunset

surfers at sunset

Insomnia… so I’m posting the first of my promised photo updates.

Sometimes you don’t know the pictures you’re taking are special, and sometimes you do. That evening, I knew this was a special sunset. The even rosy color over the blue/lavender marine layer on the peaceful ocean were captivating, and I’m so glad I was able to make it a visual memory. This photo has not been digitally modified, it’s just as I saw it — although not quite as luminous as the original reflected sunlight was so powerful.

Heat wave

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

I’ve been away from KCL for a long time. Mostly for good reasons.

Thing2 and I are still enjoying her improved health, and we are trying to get out of the house most weekends.

I have a huge backlog of great photos from our day trips.

We’ve been having a heat wave. It was nearly 100 degrees here yesterday and today. We went to the beach yesterday — there were surfers and kids and the ocean doing its thing… It was magnificent.

Today we stayed home. I had some paperwork that had to get done. I didn’t finish until 2:30, and it was so hot that rather than drive all the way to the beach, we decided to go out to the pool here. There was just one other person there. Thing2 swam and then had an hour nap at the pool-side. I read a book for about an hour and then had a little swim. It was a great day.
